Rocksbox Review & Mini Outfit Post

7.28.2015

Hi there dear friends! How is your summer?? We finally found ours and boy has it been hot! While most people are saying they are ready for fall, I have to be honest I'm not ready to let go of summer at all! This is actually really out of character for me but I love not having to wear so many layers. It's hard on my neck. Geez, I sound like an old lady! But it's the truth. Well not the old lady part... I'd like to think I still have a long while before I'm grouped into that category.

Anyhoo a month ago I was contacted by Rocksbox to collaborate a few styled shoots with their jewelry.  I decided not to share about them until I had a chance to sample their set for myself. I wanted to give you my thoughts and an honest review. I don't believe in sponsoring anything I haven't tried myself first.

What is Rocksbox?

Rocksbox is an online store that gives you unlimited access to rent from an ever-rotating closet of designer jewelry

How does it work?

In 3 simple steps you set up an account, create a wishlist + take a survey, then return the jewelry when you want something new. Each set comes with 3 pieces.

Sound easy? I thought so and decided to give it a whirl.

Upon first opening my package I discovered a cute little box. This jewelry is well packaged. Inside is a lovely and personal letter just for me. I'm such a sucker for mail, especially when the sender goes the extra mile with little details like these. Inside, the letter goes on to describe my jewelry and how it was picked just for me and my style. They even give you the option to purchase the jewelry for a discounted price should you really love it. All prices included.

All the jewelry came wrapped in bubble wrap and in individual organza drawstring bags. My first set came with their Perry Street Necklace that I had added to my wishlist. A stylist then picked a ring and earrings to go with my set.

When it comes to jewelry I can sometimes be a bit lost with how to style it. I usually don't wear a ton of jewelry because of that, even though I do love to wear it. I love the idea of someone helping me pick out matching pieces that I might not have normally picked.

I love statement necklaces/ costume jewelry. They are timeless pieces that in my opinion never go out of style. Alas so many that I have bought in the past were quite heavy and not practical to wear for any length of time. While I cannot speak for their whole line, I was pleasantly surprised with how light this necklace was. It made wearing it all day a breeze. I will note that this necklace did have a stone that was not set right. While that might not bother most the OCD in me did find that a bit annoying. Had I bought this piece I would have re-glued it properly or requested a better one. As for the price, I found it a bit steep but still completely affordable. Then again most costume jewelry is pricy. If I had insisted on keeping this one it wouldn't have broken the bank... $44. But again most of my jewelry is vintage and bargained for cheap. I did waver on buying it but the mystery of what I would get next made me decide to return it this time.

Also shown is a ring they picked for me, by Wonderlust + Co. I have to admit this simple ring was really awesome. I never would have bought this on my own but I'm glad someone opened me to a different style. It was adjustable which normally I dislike but with summer here it made hot swollen fingers more comfortable. This ring was $26

Final thoughts, I loved each piece I received! It was a perfect starter set and while I'm not 100% sure if I will continue with my membership after my sponsorship is over, I am extremely excited for my next box. Rocksbox has given me a discount code for you to try out your first month free too! I definitely think it's worth giving them a try, you can cancel at anytime. Why not pamper yourself and see what picks you get!

Hello Friends! I've been away from the computer this past week visiting my mom in Owasso, Oklahoma. Minus a few phone appearances I've made an effort to focus most of my time with family. Sometimes it's important to set aside social media and enjoy your present company. Its been ages since I visited my mom at her house, at least 4-5 years. I usually convince her to come here. In truth I'm not the biggest fan of Oklahoma. It's one dull place...sorry, nothing personal to those who love the state. After living several years there I'm happy to move on to greener, more adventurous places!

But I can't be all negative about Oklahoma, two of the most wonderful, life changing things happened to me there. The first, I met the love of my life in Tulsa. My soul mate, my nerd man, and partner in adventure. The second, I had my first beautiful daughter there. My hokie pokie ookie!

Anyhoo because we drove about 11 hours to get there my visit was short but nice. The little town has greatly grown, I hardly recognize it. Thankfully things were the same, maybe slightly improved at my mom's home. We spent our days enjoying the over cast weather (still in the 90's) and took turns riding my mom's new motorcycle.  Do you visit your parents often? Are they close by? Although my mom and I butt heads from time to time I wish she lived closer so I could care for her more. Perhaps someday I'll convince her.

In this shoot I'm wearing a longer flared jean skirt. I've been wanting a jean skirt for ages and when I saw this one at forever 21 I snagged it right up. I was really surprised by all the negative reviews it got. Most complained about it being too wide, too long, or flaring out too much. I think paired with the right top this skirt is fantastic. It makes me want to try other jean styles. It's also a TON easier to match tops to compared to my printed skirts. I wouldn't usually wear a cami with this style top but it's so darn low on the sides that my bra shows and I find that kind of tacky. Perhaps if I had a nice lacy bandeau or cropped cami it would look better? In the future I'm hoping sew the arm holes smaller. It's a pretty wide top anyhoo. Xoxo!

What I Wore:
Eye Glasses: Bonlook
Cardigan: ModCloth
Button Up Top: Forever 21
Cami: Forever 21
Skirt: Forever 21 (Similar, or this lovely plus size)
Shoes: Pinup Girl Clothing

San Francisco: Unplanned Mini Vacation

7.04.2015

A couple weeks back we made plans to take Chloie (my eldest) to visit her grandmother in California. We've done this every summer for the past 5 years. This year we decided to take a mini vacation after dropping Chloie off. Piper, Jedidiah, & myself decided to go to Washington. We eagerly anticipated the drive up the coast, I looked forward to meeting another lovely blogger friend and hoped to drive down through Portland. I was sooo excited! Ahh but as is the luck of being a standby flyer, things don't always turnout the way you anticipate. We flew into San Francisco and saw Chloie onto her plane, the day started so well, then everything unfolded. Every flight became booked! Nothing was available to Washington or Oregon. Not even back home! Fearing we would waste a whole vacation in an airport trying to get somewhere we decided to stay in San Francisco. Life's one big adventure, go where the wind blows you.

I am a California native. I grew up in Lompoc and spent most of my youth between there and San Diego but I've never been to San Francisco (or at least that I remember). It was exciting to get to see another part of the state that I always hear about but have never seen first hand. I regret, however, that we went completely unprepared. We packed for 80/90 degree weather and instead were faced with moist and windy 55 degree weather. No coats or warm clothing packed. We spent a great deal of time in the car driving not knowing what to do as we didn't plan anything. Poor Piper was wiped. I love the above photo of her. LOL!

Thankfully, after talking to my sister, she suggested checking out Haight St. She said it was a lot like the hippie scene in Manitou Springs, very colorful and lively, she was definitely right! This was a fun place to wander. You could spend all day walking up and down the streets shopping and enjoying the atmosphere.

If you're ever in San Francisco I completely recommend checking out this area! The handsome bulldog above was just sitting outside a shop, paying no attention to anyone passing by. I couldn't resist taking a photo. What a beautiful dog! My favorite part about this spot was all the vintage clothing shops!!! There were sooo many! It's one thing that I don't see a lot of in Colorado. I spared Jedidiah from going into more than two. But seriously if I was alone, I could have been in those stores all day long! Oh and by chance I came across the shop Loved to Death. Ever heard of it? I saw a couple episodes on tv once. They're an antique shop of odd and eerie things. It was pretty neat to go into the actual shop. Although it would have been even cooler if I had seen Wednesday Mourning too.

During our visit we promised to take Piper to the beach. Most of our vacation we had been stuck in the car because it was too cold to get out and we didn't have a lot of layers to keep us warm. Eventually I broke down and bought myself a hoodie. I'm obsessed with zip up hoodies and I love collecting state hoodies!

Sadly, like everywhere else, it was just too darn cold to stay and although Piper refused to admit it she was cold too. It took everything in me not to bury myself in the slightly warmer sand. We didn't stay long.

Although we didn't get out much and we weren't prepared for the cooler weather our mini vacation wasn't all bad. I was pleasantly surprised with how beautiful this city was. It carries a certain charm that most larger cities don't have. We kept commenting on how clean everything was and even as crowed as the hillsides are with homes, all the colors and styles made everything so lovely. I look forward to visiting again when we are more prepared and perhaps later in the summer when it's warmer.

How's your summer going? Any exciting adventures or future travels? We have lots of travel plans still to come this year, Oklahoma, still hoping to go to Washington, then later this year Florida, and POSSIBLY Machu Picchu but that could change on a whims notice...still deciding.

Take Care & Enjoy,
♥Heather
